Thank you to our Early Years (Nursery and Reception) families who came in this week for class meetings about how your children have settled into school life at Bowker Vale and what you can do at home to ensure they all reach their full potential. It was great to see so many of you!

For families of children in Years 1-6, you are invited into school next week for Learning Reviews – on Monday it will be Yrs 4-6 and Wednesday Yrs 1-3. Hopefully you all have your appointments and will be able to attend to discuss with your child’s teacher their targets and how you can help at home.

4M conductors and insulators!

We tested different materials to see if they could conduct electricity. We have some very imaginative scientists in our class. Aamanee found the door hinge on the cupboard could conduct electricity and Mia D discovered the window chain was a very good conductor. Well done scientists!

Greek Takeover at Manchester Art Gallery

This week Year 3 visited Manchester Art Gallery and Central Library to learn all about Ancient Greece. We looked at famous pieces of art and learned about the stories that inspired them. We listened to the story of the Trojan War and created our own stopmotion animations inspired by the Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses.

Sweetie soil!

Year 3 had a great time this week learning about the 5 layers of soil in our science lessons. We learned all about soil and why it is important to the earth. We then created our own edible layers of soil using cereals and sweets.

Into the forest

On Monday 3SU received a mysterious note. The note came with a small piece of gingerbread. It was a story about a gingerbread who had escaped from Mr and Mrs Jones’ house. The story warned us about the dangers of going into a forest. As a class we all agreed it might be a good idea to visit Blackley forest and explore how dangerous a forest might be. When we arrived in the forest we were met by a mysterious red coat and pieces of gingerbread were located around the forest. We read our new class text Into the forest.

Interesting Email

I received a really interesting email this week, from Mr Walker. Here is part of it. Do you recognise which classroom the photo, from 1945, was taken?

My name is Paul Barrie Walker. I lived at 56 Broomhall Road and attended B.V.P.S from 1945 – 1951 and then went to North Manchester Grammar School.

This photo was taken with me standing at Miss Brown’s desk but looking at the photographer, in the corner classroom. Mr. Horsefall was the head and Mr  Gee the deputy. Mrs Scott taught the Junior 3 or 4 if my memory serves me well. Miss Brown taught Class 1 (below).

Wow! What fabulous fun we had in Forest School, even in the rain! We made dens and flags using great teamwork, followed by hot chocolate and biscuits. We loved it!
