4M are electric!

We began our science unit this week – electricity. We enjoyed an afternoon testing different circuits to see if we could power a light bulb.

Sharing our work.

Year 2M and 4M had the opportunity this week to share their fantastic writing. The children enjoyed ‘showing off’ their writing and explaining their learning journey with each other.

Attendance

Attendance this week is 97.6%! Well done and thank you everybody – this is well above our target of 96%.

Special congratulations to 3SU and SSC classes who have both achieved 100% – a great achievement.

Unfortunately there were 65 late arrivals at school this week, which is more than last week. Please remember school doors are open between 8.40 and 8.50, arriving after 8.50 means you are late to school.

News Blog 20.09.19

This week has seen lots of interesting discussions around our ‘Inspirational People’ displays, we have all learned so much about them! Will you be coming into school to see them?

On Tuesday next week, I am pleased to invite parents and carers of children in Years 1-6 to come into school for our open morning from 9am – 10am. This will be an opportunity for parents and families who have an interest to come into school whilst we are working, to observe and perhaps join in with some lessons. The idea behind this is for you to be able to see first-hand what your children experience in a fairly typical school day. Obviously, with the school open to visitors, the morning will be far from normal but teachers are going to do their best to stick to the usual routines.

With the school being potentially very busy it is important to have some ground rules to ensure everybody’s well-being and that the day runs smoothly:

  • Parents are welcome from 9am to 10am – please allow your child to come in as usual for registration and use the main entrance after 8.40am to come into the hall for refreshments
  • Please be sensitive about the number of parents in class at any one time, if more than 4 or 5 are in class at once this may affect the smooth running of the lesson. In this situation it may be an idea to wait or to visit another classroom.
  • Please do visit the whole school, not just your child’s present class.
  • Remember that the day is for you to find out how the school runs on a typical day, teachers have been told not to stop teaching when you walk in; there will not be time to talk about individual children.

During the morning some of our learning ambassadors (in a red sweatshirt!) will be on hand to guide visitors around the school and talk about the activities going on. I am sure that you will see lots of fantastic work going on when you visit, this is a great school where everyone works really hard – all the children and all the staff – and we are all very proud of what we do.

There will be comments pages near the entrance for you to let us know how you think the morning has gone and what you think about what you have seen.

Please come along, join in and find out about a typical morning at Bowker Vale.

Also next week is our ‘Get Set to Eat Fresh’ day in school. Please send children in with a healthy snack and some water. We’ll be encouraging a really healthy lifestyle today and school dinners will be Olympic themed! Please keep your Aldi stickers coming in too.

Finally, Friday next week is a European Sports Day. Classes will all be playing and teaching new games to and with each other. It is non-uniform, so children can come in sportswear.

Pass and run!

We have been working on our short passes using our hands and travelling forward today. It was great fun and we were all a little shattered afterwards!
