Last week the children were very surprised to find an alien spaceship which had crashed in our school. Astro the alien came to visit to see all the fantastic learning we do. Astro wrote a letter to the children and brought along his favourite story for us to share.

Our new space topic!

Today something very exciting happened in Reception class….. A Martian landed unexpectedly in our outside play area!

Upon closer investigation we discovered a small blue and green alien, who we later named Marvin, hiding in our brick box!

Since we are all so very interested in space we decided that this would be the perfect opportunity for us to investigate this subject further and we therefore chose Space to be our half term topic!

There  was a lot of glittery space dust surrounding Marvins crash site, which we took to out investigation area to study, and Marvin gave us a present from inside his rocket, a book entitled ‘The Way Back Home’.

We will be reading this book in class in the hopes that we can find out how to fix Marvins space ship for him and then, he too, can find his way back home.

Our trip to Manchester university!

Our trip to the Manchester university was great!

We took part in subjects such as science, maths, computing
Design and technology and literacy. We learnt new things and learnt how to be an engineer. We also used crumble to make a LED light flash and we made a servo’s arm move by coding. In design and technology, we worked as a team to come up with ideas for our marble run. In maths, we worked together to sort out things that are £5 and under then we all made a Christmas decoration out of things that were under £5 (we used paper) In science we worked together to guess if the object was hard or soft, edible or not edible, and to see how long it was.In literacy, we all worked together to make a trailer. The trailer was great (even though we
didn’t finish it) I loved working with my partners Amira, Hadiar,
Aisha, Olivia and Mat. I also loved working with the teachers Mrs Mosely and Miss White. I loved my day at the Manchester university it was great!!!
